The purple fluorescent frog a.k.a. Purple Harlequin toad is one of 24 new species found in South America. It is critically endangered due to illegal gold mining and a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. It is a small toad reaching 2.5 to 3.5 cm in length. It looks like a splatter painting than a real animal. It features electric purple to reddish-purple markings that glow in the dark standing out against its deep velvety black skin.
It primarily lives in moist, tropical forests with high vegetative cover in South America.
